At what age do kids start playing Minor Hockey?
There is no minimum age limit for Minor Hockey. Generally, the Initiation program is geared for kids who will be from 4-6 years old by December 31 of the current hockey year. If you have a younger child that you wish to enroll, please contact the CMHA Board and they will help you determine if your child is ready.
Do you happen to know what day/s my child will have practices/games? We are trying to organize other activities.
The practice and game schedule is located under the ICE SCEHDULE Tab of this website. Generally, the ice schedule cannot be set before September/October of the Hockey Year as the number of teams and constraints of each team is not detemined until that time. Over the season, there may be small adjustments to the schedule as ice becomes available.
Should I go buy a mouthguard for my child?
As per the Hockey Canada rules, "for divisions that allow the wearing of a half visor, the wearing of a mouth guard is compulsary". This governs all minor hockey players in Canada. For players with a full cage type faceguard, each Minor Association has its own rules and some mandate the use of mouthguards, but the Canmore Minor Hockey Association does not at this time. For the most part, even when traveling to an association that does require their Members to wear a mouthguard, visitors are not often required. This fact should be confirmed before play, however. Saying that, each parent has to determine what their philosophy is regarding their child and may choose to have their son/daughter wear a mouthguard.
My child is 10 years old, he plays hockey sometimes but not on a team. At his age, is it too late to enroll him in the hockey team for the 2010-2011 season?
Registration for the upcoming hockey season will take place in June. All kids who are keen to play hockey are encouraged to enroll. We have a couple of different program options for kids his age. Please click on the "CMHA Programs" option under the "Registration" tab for more details.
