Parent Pledge and Code of Conduct

PARENT PLEDGE & CODE OF CONDUCT

This pledge is intended to promote respect, sportsmanship, and a positive environment for all participants in Canmore Minor Hockey Association. Parents and guardians play a vital role in shaping that experience and are required to read, understand, and sign this pledge as part of registration.

As a parent or guardian, I pledge to:

  1. Adhere to the Respect in Sport Parent Program, which is mandatory for registration.
  2. Support my child unconditionally—I will not pressure them to play, and I will encourage fun, development, and effort over winning. I will not yell at or shame my child for making mistakes or losing.
  3. Lead by example, modeling respectful and inclusive behaviour by cheering for the entire team, applauding good plays on both sides, and reinforcing the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.
  4. Treat all individuals with respect—this includes coaches, officials, players, families, volunteers, and spectators. I understand that profanity, criticism, and abusive behaviour, in-person or online, are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
  5. Conduct myself respectfully at all times while representing Canmore Minor Hockey, both at the rink and in digital communication such as emails, chats, or social media.
  6. Respect all facilities used for games and practices, and follow all Canmore Minor Hockey dressing room policies, including guidelines around family access based on age division.
  7. Follow the rules and policies of Canmore Minor Hockey, Hockey Alberta, and Hockey Canada, including those related to fair play, safety, and governance.
  8. Ensure consistent attendance by arriving on time for games, practices, and events, and providing a minimum of 48 hours' notice if my child will be absent.
    • In cases of same-day illness or emergencies, notice must still be provided as soon as possible. Repeated last-minute absences may require discussion with the coach.
  9. Avoid the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while attending or participating in any hockey activity where players are present.
  10. Communicate clearly and promptly with coaches and team staff regarding any medical or psychological concerns affecting my child.
    • I will follow the appropriate Return to Play process when needed and provide medical documentation if required.
  11. Uphold the Association Commitment Contract, recognizing that my conduct and support are integral to my child's hockey experience and the success of the team.

By signing this pledge, I agree to uphold these expectations and contribute to a respectful, safe, and enjoyable hockey environment for all.
