Helmets Mandatory

Please note, Hockey Alberta governs that all coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, guest coaches, or trainers who are on the ice must wear a CSA approved helmet.  Please click here for more information.

NCCP Coaching Courses

The purpose of the NCCP Coaching Courses, the Hockey Canada Safety and Speak Out Programs, as well as the Hockey Alberta Checking Skills is to provide Hockey Alberta's Membership with the fundamental understanding of the theoretical and technical aspects of the game of hockey. Hockey Alberta's goal is to ensure that all coaches have the required qualifications that are needed to coach minor hockey.

The following courses are offered through Hockey Alberta:

1.  Hockey Canada Safety Program (one person at each game is required to have this course)

2.  Speak Out Against Abuse and Harassment (one member of each team is required to have this course)

3.  Hockey Alberta Checking Skills (required course for Pee Wee level Coaches and Assistant Coaches; Atom level coaches and up are encouraged to attend)

4.  Intro to Coach Level (required course for Initiation Level Coaches and Assistant Coaches)

5.  NCCP Coach Level (all Coaches and Assistant Coaches coaching Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget Levels) 


Please note that the coaching courses are required to be completed before December 31 of the hockey season!  Please visit the Hockey Alberta website here for a list of all the courses offered throughout Alberta this season.
