Hockey Canada Team Manager's Manual

Being a manager for a hockey team is fun but a lot of responsibility.  To guide you, Hockey Canada, has come up with a Team Manager's Manual, which gives you a general overview of your roles and responsibilities.

Team Managers' Responsibilities to the Canmore Minor Hockey Association

More specific to our Minor Hockey Association, the following list is intended to be a quick checklist of responsibilities that the Team Managers have to the Canmore Minor Hockey Association.  This is not a complete list.

1.  Each Manager is responsible for collecting the completed "Player Pledge" forms, the completed "Parent Pledge" forms and the completed "Coach Pledge" forms that are distributed at the beginning of the year and submitting them to the CMHA Coaching/Skills Coordinator.

2.  This year, in an effort to reduce lost/unreturned jerseys, the CMHA Board is asking each Manager to not hand out jerseys to players at the beginning of the season, but rather to keep the jerseys in their possession and bring them to games.   Managers are responsible for returning the jerseys at the end of the year.

3.  Each Manager must carry a copy of their players "Medical Forms" to each game.  This ensures, that in the case of an emergency at the rink, the player's personal information (including their Alberta Health Care Number) will be availiable, if required.

4.  Each Manager must arrange for referees for their homes games.  Contact information for the referees can be found under the "Official" Tab on this website.

5.  Each Manager is responsible for arranging their own exhibition games and tournaments for their team.

6.  Each Manager is responsible for understanding the rules associated with "affiliating" players to and from their team and which members are affiliated to their team for the current season.  Any questions regarding affiliations can be directed to the CMHA Registrar.

7.  Each Manager is responsible for obtaining required "Travel Permits" and "Special Event Sanction" Permits for their team as required.  Please see the tab entitled "Permits" on this website for more information.

8.  Each Manager is responsible for submitting their team revenues (from fundraising efforts and from hosting a tournament) to the CMHA Treasurer and for providing the CMHA Treasurer a list of expenses as well.  The Managers are responsible for maintaining a balanced Team Budget.

9.  Each Manager is responsible for maintaining effective communication with each member of their team to ensure that they are aware of upcoming schedule changes, game changes, and tournaments.

Team Managers' Responsibilities to their League

Depending on which league that your team plays in, you will have different responsibilities.  It is the Team Manager's Responsibility for determining what the requirements are.

If you are managing a team that is playing in the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL), they have a
Manager's Reference and Responsibilities Document that gives you specific instructions when dealing with CAHL related issues.

Team Managers' Responsibilities to Hockey Alberta

Team Managers should be aware of the Hockey Alberta Regulations which govern our sport.  Please see the Hockey Alberta website for more information.

Other Sources of Information

In addition, it would be a good idea to get in contact someone who has managed a hockey team in previous years who can give you morespecific details of what to expect and what your responsibilities willbe.  Their experience is priceless.  You can contact a member of theCMHA Board if you need a contact name in this case.
